Why prices dip here
The Financial District's hotel demand is heavily weekday and business-driven — when the offices empty out for the weekend, hotel occupancy often drops with it, and rates can fall noticeably below equivalent Midtown properties for a Friday or Saturday night stay.
What you get for it
Close, walkable access to the 9/11 Memorial, the Staten Island Ferry (see our Staten Island guide), Battery Park, and the Brooklyn Bridge's Manhattan-side entrance. Also close to the ferries and PATH trains for a quick trip to Jersey City if you want a cheaper meal with a skyline view.
The trade-off
Fewer restaurant and nightlife options in the immediate area once the workday crowd clears out — you're often taking the subway a few stops for dinner rather than walking. It's also a longer trip to Midtown attractions like Broadway and Central Park than a Midtown hotel would be.
